WHO-TDR-SIHI: Research Collaborations to Advance Social Innovation in Health in Low-and Middle-Income Countries
The World Health Organisation (WHO), in partnership with Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR) and Social Innovation in Health Initiative (SIHI), currently invites applications for the research collaborations to advance social innovation in health in low-and middle-income countries.
The purpose of this call is to advance social innovation in low- and middle-income countries in order to enhance healthcare delivery. Universities and research institutes will lead this effort and work in collaboration with various health system actors as relevant.
Objectives
Building upon and leveraging SIHI’s work, international consortium proposals should meet several of the following objectives:
- Promote and provide an enabling environment to advance social innovation in health.
- Facilitate research prioritization and conduct research on social innovation in health.
- Strengthen capacity for research on social innovation.
- Identify additional social innovations in respective countries and conduct case study research.
- Stimulate networking, sharing of lessons and the development and dissemination of good practice.
Budget
Under this call, the total amount of US$ 300 000 will be used to fund institutional consortium proposals.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants are part of an international consortium of at least two universities or research institutes. They apply in collaboration with various health system actors as relevant.
- At least one of the universities or research institutes is based in one of the 15 countries hosting one or more of the 23 social innovation cases selected in 2015 by SIHI. The universities or research institutes engage the respective social innovation organization(s) in their proposal.
- Demonstrated interest and commitment to promote and support social innovation in health in partnership with SIHI.
- Support from the government at an appropriate level (e.g. letter of support), as relevant.
- At least 70% of the budget is allocated to low- and middle-income country universities or research institutes.
