UNDP/Nepal: Implementing HIV Prevention, Care and Treatment Services for Female Prisoners
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Nepal is seeking proposals for Implementing HIVPrevention, Care and Treatment Services for Female Prisoners for UNODC. The goal is to reduce the HIV transmission and vulnerability amongst Female prison population.
UNODC seeks to carry out series of sensitization and advocacy workshops that intend to inform stakeholders, encourage dialogues and respond to questions and queries about different HIV and AIDS issues.
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime is the main UN agency in the fight against illicit drugs, crime, corruption and tension in virtue of the Un Conventions and Universal Instruments in this regard. The UNODC Regional Office for South Asia is located in New Delhi (India) and covers six countries of the region:Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
Approaches
- Dissemination of Standard Operation Procedures for HIV Prevention Treatment, care and Support in prison setting in Nepal.
- Training and Sensitization workshops for jail management authorities on HIV and AIDS with particular emphasis on stigma and discrimination issues.
- Awareness raising activities for national decision makers on the need to address the vulnerability of female prisoners to HIV/AIDS and drugs use and to provide a comprehensive package of services.
- Strengthen VCT/STI services including PMTCT in the ongoing health delivery system of the prison.
- Identify legal aid needs and establish referrals to legal aid services.
- Provision of gender-sensitive HIV/AIDS prevention and care material
- Provision of Voluntary HIV testing and counseling and STI Treatment.
Activities
Awareness raising of national decision-makers on the need to address the vulnerability of female prisoners to HIV/AIDS and drug use and to provide comprehensive package of services within prison settings in gender and culture-sensitive manner, free of stigma and discrimination
- Conduct 5 consultative meetings for 1 day with relevant government departments, local institutions, community leaders and target groups for fostering the implementation of HIV/AIDS program.
- The workshop should include participants from ministries, DACC, DPHO, LDO, CD, vulnerable groups, community based organisations and other partners for 30 participants.
Eligibility Criteria
The EIO is open to Non-Government Organisations/ Networks (NGO)/Institutions, registered with the Government of Nepal/Social Welfare Council of Nepal/ or District Administration Office for a minimum of 5 years and hold valid Certificates of Registration.
