The Lister Institute of Preventive is offering research prize for young researchers to work in any field of biomedical research. The research prize is open to any researcher, working in any not-for-profit institution in the UK and Republic of Ireland (eg University, Charity-funded research institute or Research Council institution). The research undertaken may be in any area of biomedical research.
The awards are aimed at younger, rather than established, researchers who might be in their early years of running their own groups and for whom receipt of the Prize would ‘make a real difference’.
The Lister Institute of Preventive Medicine is a UK medical research charity which supports young researchers by the award of Lister Prize Fellowships. They may work in any field of biomedical research and may be either medically or scientifically trained.
Applicants need to demonstrate that they have a good level of written and spoken English
Course Level: Research Prize is available to undertake research in a not-for-profit organization in the UK and Republic of Ireland (eg University, Charity-funded research institute or Research Council institution).
Study Subject: The research undertaken may be in any area of biomedical research.
Scholarship Award: The Institute currently award five Prize Fellowships per year, each worth £200,000.

Eligibility: The Lister Institute seeks diversity amongst its Prize –winners – there is no stereotype for the ideal candidate but there are some eligibility criteria:
Research training – the Lister Prize Fellowships are open to both scientifically and clinically trained applicants.
Research Area – the research was undertaken may be in any area of biomedical research in its broadest context.
Research experience – every applicant should have a minimum of three and less than ten years’ post-doctoral experience by 1 October 2016. Post-doctoral experience will be taken from the date that a Ph.D. or MD is awarded or the earlier if the candidate holds both degrees. The allowance will be made for ‘time-out’ from research such as for maternity leave or full-time clinical training, in addition, the Institute will consider other personal circumstances that may have limited research time or might in the future. Details may be provided on the form or advice sought from the Institute’s Administrator before application.
Location – the Lister Institute will fund research in the UK and the Republic of Ireland provided that it is undertaken in a not-for-profit organization such as (but not exclusively) a University, Research Council Unit or Charity-funded Institute.
Employment – the Lister Prize Fellowship funding must not be used to provide or augment the applicant’s salary. Therefore, regardless of nationality the applicant must be employed by a UK or Republic of Ireland not-for-profit organization and have guaranteed to fund for the first three years of the Lister award. Since the Lister Prize Fellowship does not provide a personal salary the holders of Fellowships from other organizations are, of course, eligible to apply.
Nationality: Candidates of any nationality employed by a UK or Republic of Ireland not-for-profit organization can apply for these prize fellowships.

Entrance Requirement: The awards are open to any researcher, who fulfills the eligibility criteria in any not-for-profit institution in the UK and Republic of Ireland (eg University, Charity-funded research institute or Research Council institution).
Test Requirement: No
English Language Requirement: Applicants need to demonstrate that they have a good level of written and spoken English.
Research Scholarships
How to Apply: The signed original form and thirteen complete copies (Parts 1-7) should be sent via Royal Mail. A complete Application comprises Forms Part 1 – 7:
- Form Part 1 Application summary and signature page
- Form Part 2 Details of and research
- Form Part 3 Personal Statement on the ‘Impact’ of the Prize
- Form Part 4 Statement by Head of Department or equivalent
- Form Part 5 Potential Expert Referees
- Form Part 6 Institutional Agreement Form
- Form Part 7 (a, b & c):(a) A summary of the proposed research and its potential significance (maximum 500 words). This should be written in a form understandable to scientists not specialized in their particular field. Please indicate the key scientific objectives and challenges of the research and note potential medical implications.(b) The detailed research proposal (not more than four single-sided A4 paper). The text may be accompanied by a maximum of three additional pages of figures plus references.(c) A one page CV plus a full list of publications; also identify which three they feel to be the most significant and why.
