Habitat Young Leaders Build Advocacy Grants 2017, DEADLINE March 31, 2017
The Habitat for Humanity Young Leaders Build 2017 campaign brings together young people from across the Asia-Pacific region to support families in need of decent housing. Young people volunteer, fund-raise and speak out for the need for decent and affordable housing as a way out of poverty and toward self-reliance.
As part of the 2017 campaign, Habitat for Humanity would like to invite eligible youth organizations and individuals to apply for advocacy grants.
Aim of the Grants:
- Incentivize young people to undertake policy oriented advocacy activities during the HYLB campaign period (December to April).
- Motivate more young people to become advocates on housing issues, leveraging their participation in the event as potential for advocacy.
- Encourage young people to raise their voices on public policy issues on land and housing.
- Use the opportunity for young people to make policy asks in a way that is suitable for them using various tactics.
Thematic Areas:
These grants will support advocacy activities that aim to impact policies by influencing decision makers, or change practice or systems in the following thematic areas:
- Security of tenure ─ ensures that everyone has access to land for shelter without fear of eviction.
- Gender and property rights ─ laws or policies that enable everyone to access land and housing.
- Slum upgrading ─ an assurance or an opportunity for people living in slums to have secure tenure.
- Disaster resilience ─ laws or policies that support disaster-affected people in accessing secure land tenure.

Grant Amount:
- The grants will support up to 40 projects and each grant will be worth a maximum of US$250. Each applicant may present more than one application for consideration.
- In addition to the grant amount, Habitat for Humanity’s national organizations may access additional funding of up to 50 percent of the granted amount to assist in monitoring and documentation.
Eligibilities
Open to youth organizations, groups and individuals in Asia-Pacific (where Habitat for Humanity has offices).
Note: Habitat for Humanity’s national organizations can encourage and facilitate the participation of potential applicants.
Eligible Regions: Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China/Hong Kong, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Nepal, New Zealand, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam.
APPLICATION PROCESS
- Potential applicants must completely fill out the application form for HYLB advocacy grants.
- Completed application forms will need to be submitted to the Habitat for Humanity Office in your country or ap_info@habitat.org.
- Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until funds are expended.
- The final decisions on the grants will be made by a review committee at Habitat for Humanity’s Asia-Pacific Area Office.
- Successful applicants will be notified through the Habitat for Humanity office in their country. Upon completion of their advocacy activities, grant recipients will have to send in their grant reporting forms.
