Regional Academy on Legal Dialogue for Legal Transformation, Deadline: 7 November 2016
Open to: lawyers between the ages of 24 and 35 years old from Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia
Description
Since 2001, the German government’s Caucasus Initiative has been promoting cross-border cooperation between the South Caucasus countries of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia. In 2017, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH within the scope of its regional programme Legal Approximation towards European Standards in the South Caucasus(LAtESt) is sponsoring a regional academy for the 8th time.
The Regional Academy – Transformation Lawyers – Legal dialogue for legal transformation aims to create a scientific and practice-oriented atmosphere which will facilitate a professional dialogue and intensive exchange of information among the participants. All courses are taught in English. Up to a total of 21 participants from all three countries will engage in a legal dialogue on legal transformation in the South Caucasus and intensify their legal knowledge and legal practice skills.
The topics covered in the Regional Academy are diverse and will include:
Civil law versus case law;Skills training in legal methodology;A platform for discussions about legal fundamentals of political science and rule of law, orientation of legal reforms towards Agenda 2030;Intensive training in selected fields of European, public and private law;Practical communication and presentation skills;Negotiation techniques and leadership skills;Cross-cutting topics, e.g. anti-corruption and gender.
Eligibility
The Regional Academy is targeted at lawyers from the South Caucasus with the following profile:
Completed university degree in law;At least two years work experience in Armenia, Azerbaijan or Georgia;Involvement in legal and judicial reforms in the area of civil, commercial or administrative law(Civil Society, Public or Private sector);Between 24 and 35 years of age interested in foreign law concepts;Very good knowledge of the English language.

Please note that all applications submitted by the deadline will be carefully reviewed. Only shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview.
