DOE NNSA Stewardship Science Graduate Fellowship in USA, 2017-2018!

Applications are invited for The Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration Stewardship Science Graduate Fellowship (DOE NNSA SSGF) for 2017-2018 academic year. U.S. citizen or permanent residents are eligible to apply for this fellowship.

The DOE NNSA SSGF program’s primary objective is to encourage the training of scientists by providing financial support to talented students who study and research designated areas of stewardship science accompanied by practical work experience at DOE NNSA research facilities.

Course Level: Fellowship is available for pursuing PhD program.

Study Subject: Fellowship is awarded in fields of study that solve complex science and engineering problems critical to stewardship science.

Scholarship Award: The DOE NNSA SSGF program provides fellows with many unique benefits:

• A $36,000 yearly stipend.
• Payment of full tuition and required fees during the appointment period at any accredited U.S. university.
• An annual $1,000 academic allowance for research or professional development expenses
• A term of up to four years, subject to annual renewal.
• Participation in an annual DOE NNSA SSGF program review, with related travel expenses, reimbursed.
• A 12-week research practicum at one of DOE’s national defence laboratories: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Los Alamos National Laboratory or Sandia National Laboratories (California or New Mexico).
• Augmented stipend during the practicum.
• The option to participate in the second practicum at a different DOE laboratory.
• The opportunity to join a larger scientific community that understands and appreciates the role stewardship science plays across a variety of science and engineering disciplines.
• Opportunities to attend and publish research results at other conferences.

Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for scholarship:

• The DOE NNSA SSGF is open to any U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien planning full-time, uninterrupted study toward a doctoral degree at an accredited U.S. university. Those eligible to apply include senior undergraduate students and first- and second-year graduate students focusing their studies on high energy density physics, nuclear science, or properties of materials under extreme conditions and hydrodynamics.
• DOE NNSA SSGF recipients must be enrolled as full-time graduate students at an accredited U.S. college or university and must study and research within the fellowship’s goals. During the summer, fellows should conduct full-time research related to completing their degree, enrol in classes or take a practicum assignment at one of the DOE NNSA laboratories.

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirements: Students planning to study in an academic department and conduct research in a science or engineering discipline related to high energy density physics, nuclear science, or materials under extreme conditions and hydrodynamics, are eligible for this fellowship

English language Requirements: There is no minimum GPA or GRE required to apply. The research statements, a program of study, reference letters, transcripts, GRE and GPA are important parts of this competitive fellowship and are all taken into consideration at the time applications are reviewed.
