HUMAN RIGHTS AWARDS 2016

The Human Rights Awards is the pinnacle of human rights recognition in Australia. Each year we are proud to acknowledge the outstanding contribution of individuals and organisations in promoting and protecting human rights and freedoms.

This year, the 30th anniversary since the establishment of the Australian Human Rights Commission, provides an excellent opportunity to celebrate the significant milestones in human rights advancements made over the past 30 years. The Awards ceremony will be held in Sydney on Friday 9 December.

Nominations are now open for eight Awards categories, including the prestigious Human Rights Medal.

Previous winners of the Human Rights Medal include Peter Greste, Ian Thorpe, Eddie Mabo, the Rt Hon. Malcom Fraser, Ron Merkel QC, Sister Clare Condon, Dorothy Hoddinott and Elizabeth Evatt.

Nominations are now open and will close on 11 September 2016.

The Human Rights Awards recognises and celebrates the extraordinary contributions of individuals, organisations and businesses to the field of human rights each year.

We are calling for nominations for people, organisations and businesses that have made significant contributions to human rights in Australia. While some nominees might be well-known, most are just ordinary people making a difference to human rights outcomes in their work or community.
The best nominees are often the people who wouldn’t dream of putting themselves forward, which is why we encourage you to do it for them!
