Applications open for African Union Young Scientist National Award 2016! Deadline: 7 October 2016

The National Commission for Science and Technology (NCST) in collaboration with the African Union and Italy based World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) is pleased to announce the Call for Applications for the Young Scientist National Award, open to both male and female young researchers.
This program is designed to recognize the scientific achievements of young researchers and to encourage them to continue to strive for excellence in their scientific career.
Award Categories
The 2016 Award will be given to two winners, one in each of the categories as detailed below:
  • Life and Earth Sciences
  • Basic Sciences, Technology and Innovation.
Prize
Each winner will be awarded a cash prize of USD2000 and a Certificate.
Objectives
The objectives of the award are:
  • To encourage young scientists to effectively participate in the scientific and technological development.
  • To promote innovation and increase scientific productivity and creativity.
  • To facilitate the exchange of information among young scientists on technologies generated.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the award the scientist must satisfy the following criteria:
  • Be Malawian nationals
  • Male or female young researchers no older than 40 years of age on 31st December 2016;
  • Holders of at least a Master’s degree;
  • Have a good record of research publications in internationally recognized journals; and
  • Must have lived and worked in Malawi for the past three years (excluding study period, abroad).
