Description

Central European University and the university-based Institute for Advanced Study (IAS CEU) are pleased to announce a call for applications for their Humanities Initiative Fellowship, a joint research and teaching program for the academic year 2017/18.

As part of CEU’s commitment to both the humanities and interdisciplinary teaching and research, the University launched this initiative in spring 2014. The Initiative provides incentives for new cross-departmental and interdisciplinary research and teaching activities in the humanities, and to infuse CEU social science programs with perspectives, approaches and accomplishments taken from the humanities. The Humanities Initiative Fellowship serves the purpose of opening up new fields of research or curricula not currently pursued at CEU.

Fellows work on their own research project as junior fellows at the Institute for Advanced Study in two of the semesters and teach a course at the university during one semester.

Eligibility

PhD in hand by the starting of the fellowship, September 1, 2017 in any area of the humanities;A good track record of publications and a promising, innovative research project;Preference will be given to applications that can demonstrate a promising connection to one of CEU’s new or established research foci;No visiting, research or teaching position at CEU since September 2011.

Fellowship

The remuneration includes accommodation at the Raoul Wallenberg Guesthouse for the entire 10 months and a net stipend/salary of EUR 1,500 per month (EUR 15,000 total). The fellowship not cover travel and utility costs in the Guesthouse, or the cost of health insurance in Budapest.

Fellows are expected to be in residence in Budapest and participate actively in the life of the IAS including its weekly seminar/luncheon as well as its social events scattered throughout the year.

How to apply?

You will be required to submit the following material:

A completed online application form; A cover letter of no more than 1,000 words in which you describe what courses you propose to teach and what kinds of connections you envision between your research and teaching agenda and faculty/ departments / research groups at CEU. Please also describe your teaching experience;The abstract of your research project (max. 150 words);The description of your research project (min. 1,000 – max. 2,500 words; the reference list is not included in the word count);The syllabus of the proposed course (around 2 pages);A CV including a list of up to 5 of your most important publications and a list of courses taught in the past 5 years, as well as the name and email address of two referees (for potential reference).
