Accepting applications for the 2017 Spring YSEALI Academic Fellowship in USA, Deadline: October 14, 2016

Wonderful opportunities for ASEAN Youth by YSEALI. ASEAN Youth Hub is founded and managed by YSEAL alumni, and we hope to connect ASEAN youth to more and better programs! Apply and don’t forget to share! The YSEALI Academic Fellowship will bring current or recently graduated students from ASEAN member countries to the U.S. for five-week institutes at pre-eminent U.S. universities and colleges.

The Fellowship will focus on one of three themes:
Civic Engagement,Environmental Issues, and Social Entrepreneurship and Economic Development.

The five-week institutes consist of a balanced series of seminar discussions, readings, group presentations, and lectures.

Eligibility:
Between the ages of 18 and 25 at the time of application.A citizen of one of the following countries: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam;A resident of one of the following countries: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam;A full-time undergraduate student from college, university, or other institutions of higher learning; or have graduated in the past four years;Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English;Not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.;Eligible to receive a United States J-1 visa.

Cost:
The U.S. Department of State will cover all participant costs, including: program administration; domestic travel and ground transportation; book, cultural, mailing and incidental allowances, housing and subsistence, international travel costs, and other travel allowances within set limits.

Applicants should:
Demonstrate strong leadership qualities and track record in their university, place of work, and/or community;Demonstrate knowledge, or professional experience in one of the YSEALI themes: civic engagement, environment and natural resources management, or entrepreneurship and economic development;Demonstrate a commitment to community service, volunteerism, or mentorship;Indicate a serious interest in learning about the United States and ASEAN as a region;Be willing to actively participate in an intensive academic program, community service, and study tour;Have a commitment to return to Singapore to apply leadership skills and training to benefit their community, country, or the ASEAN region; and Preferably have little or no prior study or travel experience in the United States.
